Sometimes the Universe will Conspire against you

If you have ever read the The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, then you may recall one of the many famous lines:

And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it

Well, I had one of those moments, only the Universe was definitely conspiring against me.

Some call is Sod’s Law, how it works, is beyond my understanding.

Each morning it’s my task to drop off our youngest at nursery.  This morning, as my wife left the house with the eldest, I remembered I had to put out the rubbish.  Looking at the clock, I rushed out to the back garden, took out the bags and two rip through.  I rush back in, get replacement bags and get the rubbish out.

Just as we are ready to leave, I realise my eldest has forgotten his water bottle.  So I now know it’s a de-tour to his school to drop it off before I go to nursery.  I arrive at the school gates in my car (can’t park on the side road as I have my youngest with me) and hit the buzzer, one watch full eye on the time.  Five minutes later I hear the voice of a hurried receptionist, ushering me in.

Bottle dropped off, I head to the nursery as per my normal route.  Turning right onto a narrow road which leads straight to the nursery, I am the 4th car in a row, the first two cars and “learner drivers”, I slap my forehead, my son finds it amusing.  What normally is a 2 minute drive up to the end of this road takes me 5 minutes; like a F1 race, lost minutes count.

At the nursery now, walk my darling into his room and he refuses to cuddle the nanny.  Why?  because he doesn’t recognise her because she’s from another room, standing in for “regular nanny” who has just popped out.  Approx. 7 minutes later I leave the nursery and head to work.

As I approach the office, guess what, not a parking space in sight.  Why?  because I was late in, so I park my car on the side road and walk a distance which is not too dissimilar from the London Marathon.

What did I learn today?  Accept the omens, you can’t miss them, understand that there is a force so much more powerful than you can imagine, who controls your fate on a day-to-day basis.  I’m a positive chap, so the way I look at, maybe the Universe was protecting me from something by delaying my journey today, I wouldn’t know, otherwise I would be God.

  1. Everything happens for a reason. And with every reason is not an explanation but a course that your day was supposed to follow. Remember that Danny :). Love this post.. absolutely. I think everyone has gone through this one day or another.

  2. That’s how i felt yesterday like the universe was against me but then realised it was protecting me. 🙂

  3. “Maktub” as Paulo says in the Alchemist… You are the right person, at the right time, in exactly the right place… always. GOD (Grand Organising Design) works in mysterious and sometimes crazy ways- yet it only seems so to us because we dont know the full design, we dont see the full picture… Yes, the important thing is to accept the course and find happiness regardless. Awesome post!

  4. Oh! And in that case I dont think the universe was conspiring against you! It was conspiring for you- as it always is! There is a hindi proverb which translated means- there may be delay in the house of the lord but never darkness…

    1. Many Thanks for your comments Shilpa. Feel free to drop that proverb in Hindi, I should be OK, watched that many Bollywood movies to acquire a sound understanding 🙂

Also, added you to my blogroll and look forward to many more interesting posts from yourself.

      Regards
      D.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. Yes a fair point but what can we do but to accept this as we all have our limitations. A wise person is he/she who remains contempt after such instances..
      Have a nice weekend.
